Engineering Watch Officers
All candidates for the maritime academy hold a Degree from an Ethiopian technical university:
5 Years at University
BSc Degree Mechanical Engineering
They have to go through an intensive selection process
Screening and selection of candidates
Complete exams in English, math, physics, chemistry, thermodynamics, and electrical drawings
Interviews carried out by the senior staff of the Maritime Academy
PI exams are administered to all candidates
Marine Training Program
8 months of practical & theoretical workshops in accordance with the requirements of the IMO Model Course / STCW
Training includes for all Cadets: Basic Safety, AFF, PSCRB, MFA, Designated Security Duties, Basic Tanker Training (Oil, Chemical, Gas), High Voltage Training
Highly disciplined and strict training environment
International Instructors are highly skilled senior officers with extensive training experience
Sea Service
Minimum 12 months mandatory sea service as Engine Cadet – following the STCW
Exams
4 weeks training & preparing for the EWO Exam
EWO Exam conducted by Ethiopian Maritime Affairs Authority
ETO’s
Comparable to the mechanical engineers, there is a strict selection and training procedure for ETO’s as well.
